
Welcome to the homepage of Sebastian Zepf! Sebastian was born in Tuttlingen, Germany in 1993. He received the B.Eng. in electrical engineering in 2015 from the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University in Ravensburg (Germany) in collaboration with the MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH and the M.Sc. in electromobility in 2017 from the University of Stuttgart (Germany). In 2021, he obtained the Ph.D. degree in computer science from Ulm University (Germany) in collaboration with the Mercedes-Benz AG (Sindelfingen, Germany) and the MIT Media Lab of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, USA). His PhD program included two 3-month periods as Visiting Researcher at the MIT Media Lab. The focus of his PhD research was on bringing emotional intelligence into computing systems. Areas of work and interest are automated emotion recognition and measurement, emotion-sensitive user interfaces, mobile health and well-being, stress management, emotional conversational interfaces and emotion-aware recommendations.
From 2021 to 2023, Sebastian was part of B. Braun New Ventures, a corporate start-up of B. Braun based in Freiburg, which develops solutions to automate medical procedures taking the role as UI/UX lead.
Since November 2023, he is HCI Researcher at the Mercedes-Benz AG, investigating multimodal, intelligent and social human-computer interaction concepts and technologies. Alongside, he is lecturer at the Hochschule Furtwangen University at the campus in Tuttlingen teaching multimodal UI and UX.
